In Response To: Race Takepoints in a 9pt Match (Dmitriy Obukhov)

Dmitriy calls these the "real" take points. For semantic purposes, we have labled these as the "effective live cube take points." That is probably what they will be called in the next version of XG.

All the take points are "real" in that they do have their application in certain situations, but "effectively" these take points that are between the dead and live cube are the ones we should apply over the board in longer races, and they also serve as a pretty good place to start and adjust from in other types of positions. The dead cube would only be applied in last-roll positions or when the taker can never redouble, and XG's live cube can only be used when we can get to a perfectly efficient recube, which is rare.

The classic money position is when both players have a checker on their 6 point. If you accept the cube you will have a perfectly efficient recube as you win exactly 75 percent of the time and it doesn't matter if your opponent takes or passes. So in this case, even though your cubeless winning chances are only 18.75 you have a take.
