It's not about how they score games or matches, it's about how players get ranked. I spent a lot of money and time and effort to achieve the status of "Life Master" at age 22. Just about all I did with every spare minute of my time and every spare dollar was make it to tournaments to achieve points...and also, because I loved the game. (I was also fortunate that I didn't have kids yet and my wife enjoyed the game and was often my partner or on my swiss team. And I was fortunate to be living in Dallas and playing at the same club with the Dallas Aces...many of the best players in the world.)

You accumulate points for all of your attendance and performance, and of course, there are more points and different kinds of points (gold for example) for doing well in larger events.
