Counting and Language - French with Video

When explaining the borrowing method for subtraction you can say something like: "When calculating 84 - 36 we can rewrite as 7 ^14 - 36". We are really still do the same problem. There is still the same initial amount but we are just thinking of it is 70 and 14 instead of 80 and 4.

So is that concept easier or harder for a French speaker to understand? In words it would be "instead of 70 + 14 we are thinking of it as 70 + 14" right? It might be hard because it is too easy.
