One of the most challenging variations yet

Last week I invented a new backgammon variation and played it with one of my students, and it was most interesting and challenging and you might want to try it. I call it "Add One."

The game starts normally with the opening roll going to the player with the higher dice.

On the next roll, the next player gets to add 1 to either dice and that is his roll (of course if you add 1 to the 6 it becomes a 1).

You not only have to figure out what number to add to give yourself a good roll, but also what your opponent will do on his next roll and so on.

Once there is no contact, you both roll the dice normally.

The doubling cube is used normally.

Maybe I will toy with the idea of either adding or subtracting 1.
