Blue to play 65

eXtreme Gammon Version: 2.19.211.pre-release

This is a very interesting position. I spent some time looking at things after Blue plays 13/7 vs. 8/2. (It's a double/take after either move.) XG doesn't always do what I expect, sometimes playing safe instead of hitting, and sometimes hitting in different places than I would have. So obviously I don't understand the position well. On the other hand, XG often changes its mind depending on the level of analysis as well, so maybe it doesn't understand things so well either.

It looks like duplication is an important factor after Blue's 8/2 and a hit from White. The blot in Blue's board can become a huge liability. Blue needs a 4 to cover, but that 4 is often needed to rehit or anchor on the other side of the board. The dangling blot often allows White to sustain an attack even after Blue responds well, and the trade-offs between single wins and gammons are difficult to judge. Blue's board often makes for some difficult choices for White going forward.

I started an XGR+/XGR+ rollout, which I'll post later. I'd like to run one at even higher settings, but I don't have the horsepower.
