Risk tactics (ot)

I have a game of Risk coming up. I only play once or twice per decade so that's like starting from scratch every time. I'll be playing some experienced players so I am looking for ways to minimize their edge.

Does anyone have advice on when to defend with one or 2 dice?

I can do the dice combinations but am wondering if the number of armies on the attacking territory and the number of defending armies influence if I need to use 1 or 2.

My initial gut feeling is that I shall only consider the attacking roll when I make my decision, but I am far from sure.

              • The old U.K. rules are quite clear that the attacker rolls the dice first, then the defender rolls.
