I guess after 17/11 the 9/8 is better because it's more effective distribution, with the blot aiming at both vacant points. The additional hits with 1s from 9/8 vs 6/5:
11, 12 - would hit anyway
13 - hits, but produces 8 returns, so not a disaster
14, 15, 16 - would clear the straggler anyway

Still, I see 13, 14, 15 and 16 as considerably worse after 9/8 than after 6/5 due to race. I guess, with so much contact left, and opp being far from an easy bear-in, the race shouldn't be a primary concern?
