In the game that I posted to the other thread ("Moving through the outfield"), I went from facing this position (as Blue)—

gnubg59

3X4O3O7X4X1O '1X ' '1O '

3O ' '2O ' ' ' ' ' ' ' '

tchow227

Position ID: xwAEcU/H3yMAAA Match ID: EYEFAEAAEAAA

—to facing this position twenty moves later:

gnubg16

9X '1O '1O '1X '1O ' ' '

3O2O2O2O1O2O ' ' ' ' ' '

tchow96

Position ID: /4EAALhtDUBIAA Match ID: UYkIAEAAEAAA

But then, after I hit, White rolled the 5-5 joker. I missed with 6-6 and got gammoned.

So is it better to get a shot, hit it, get hit back, cobble together a defense, hit again, get hit back, build a five-point board, hit again to finally claw one's way back to a nearly level game—and then get gammoned by a joker?

Or is it better to have been gammoned 25 moves earlier?
