I suppose that pigeon is also an English/american term for a donk, at least in some sports.

Way back in '94 I was watching the Open at Turnberry. On the second practice day an interesting four ball/best ball was played. In the paper the following day there was an article on this four ball. Among other things it said: Tom Watson had called up Jack Nicklaus saying that he had a couple of pigeons lined up. Jack had asked who those pigeons were and it turned out that it was Greg Norman and Nick Price, number 1 and 2 in the world ranking list at the time. Needles to say that Greg and Nick's 60 was only good enough for runner up spot as Jack and Tom went 1 better.
