I think you're right in your views here Stick.
The recipe for successful matchups like these are: - big name players (like Gus, Falafel, Stick, etc.) - exiting formats and matchups - big money
-------------------------------------------------
One think I wondered, regarding the DK vs. W - how do you think the stakes affect play?
There's a hell of a lot difference playing for $30K and $300K of your own money!
Most players will see their ER go up a bit, when the stakes get "too meaningful" for them. Some players will deliver the same game. A few players will raise their game. I guess all backgammon-players think they are in the second category, until they have actually experienced high stakes gaming themselves!
Looking at the DK team and the W team who just played, I think you'd find examples on both teams where stakes could affect the ER. I'm leaning towards a slight advantage for the DK team is the stakes got sky-high, but I'm not sure if that's correct.
What are your thoughts on stakes and ER for such strong players as we saw on DK vs W?
(remember that confidence and thus speed will affect ER as well, since most of the matches had time pressure).
