Re-reaching the starting position

Henrik asked:

Fewest number of rolls to reach mirrored starting position?

I worked on this decades ago. I'll provide my answers, but I'll leave the details as a problem for the reader:

(a) Six, if played well throughout.

(b) Five, if all but one of the rolls are played well.

(c) Four, after re-reaching the starting position (doubles now legal on first roll).

Can anyone figure out (a), (b) or (c)?
