I agree. These theoretical opponents don't exist. Consider this: if your opponent doesn't understand when to double at 2-away all, how competent is s/he with judging what his GWC, gammon win, gammon loss chances are?
Jason made a good point a couple months ago concerning "quickie" events. If they begin 2-away, 2-away they usually wind up Double+Pass in the first game because both players think the opponent will err but they won't. So directors should be realistic and either make the competition 2-point matches without doubling cube (my suggestion) or just cut to the chase and make the competition pure DMP matches (Jason's suggestion)! Of course these 'solutions' would steal equity from the players who really DO know what they are doing, like Sho Sengoku back when he played our game.
