Gammon Go (GG) and Gammon Save (GS) Considerations

the match leader is perhaps trying to steer his opponent away from such an early cube consequent to the blot being hit.
Sounds weird to me. On the contrary, if at 2a-4a with centered cube the match leader can choose between several plays that would be equal bests at GS (1a2aC or 2a4a holding a 2-cube) and one of them directly provokes a takable double, that's always the best play. More generally, the after-the-move mwc of the 2a4a-player, as long as he is not about to be doubled out, can be described as
mwc_2a4a-cc = mwc_GS - potential immediate double error,
where by "potential immediate double error" I mean the magitude of the error an immediate double of the trailing player would be, i.e. max(0,trailer's 4a2a-cc mwc - trailer's GG mwc) [all equities in mwc].
That is, for the leader, 2a4a is like GS with an additional incentive to put the trailer as close to a correct double as possible (usually by adding as much volatility as possible).
