Was Mike ashamed to put Nactation in the subject header for a sequence with a misplayed second roll? Perhaps I should be too, but I'm feeling no pride today.

Stick volunteered to roll out some third-roll positions on Snowie for "us" several years ago (when Paul and I had still planned to jointly write the 42 book), and one of the positions (for possible variant comparison) we wanted to check out was 51S-62S-42. So, thanks to Stick, we do have a (Snowie) rollout for it.

That is a long way of saying that I already know the answer, so it won't spoil it for others. This is a good example, though, of how it can help to know not only the best play of a related position but also the MARGIN (even roughly) between it and the second best play. Hint: compare to the second roll position 62S-42.

Consider the variant below. It is the same as 51S-62S-42, except that Blue has not played 13/8. This can be illegally arrived at by 1U-62S-42, or legally arrived at by the well-played sequence captioned below. Anyone is welcome to offer an opinion on this variant, and if it captures Mike's imagination, he can feel free to roll it out and include it in his follow-up post.
