Thanks for the exercise, and a thoughtful response, David. I did the exercise with GNU set at cubeful 2-ply, match play 3a, 3a. I'm not sure how that particular match score might affect the results.
my observations: Hit and cover on my two point when possible, else hit and cover on my one point, when possible. I would characterize this move as attack, and point inside my board
Play four checkers to my bar point if opp makes his 4, 5, or bar point. I would characterize this move as 'blocking, priming, preparing for attack'
If opp makes advanced anchor, run 24/18 with one checker, make my bar point, and shoot the extra checker deep into my board. I would characterize this move as 'run, block/prime, safety'.
Please do send me your rollouts so i can compare them to the results at GNU cubeful 2-ply. I know that rollouts provide a higher confidence level.
Thanks again.....i wish i knew how to share my excitement for this game, and for the opportunities available to all developing players who share in this discussion list .
