8/2 is forced. Then 8/3 minimizes shots while 6/1* is the "Chase play" of hitting the guard in an anchor-and-guard situation. 13/8 doesn't look better than 6/1* since it leaves two blots and more shots and doesn't put White on the bar.
It's gammon save so safety matters; that would suggest 8/3. However, although it minimizes immediate shots, it leaves us with continued shot jeopardy. If we play 6/1* and White dances then we're well-placed to solve all our problems. 6/1* is surely the DMP play. The other thing to note is that White has two dead checkers and an open 4pt, so getting hit doesn't lose the game immediately. I will go with 6/1* despite the score.
