The double point is the % needed to double if the game were to be subsequently played with the cube removed from play.
It isn't quite this simple but basically it is useful in that it along with the cash point gives an envelope in which the cube might be correct. The closer it is to to the lower end of that envelope the greater the volatility must be to make the cube correct. In an extreme case of a last roll situation just being at or above that lower amount means it is a correct to cube.
For a 2a 3a score where on turn payer has about 85 pips one should be at least 71% to cube.
