Unfortunately, NW said something like "can't have won an open event" while he actually meant something a bit different like "I'll decide and carefully weigh open wins". Since it was a spur of the moment response, rather than a carefully thought out and predetermined rule, the ruling committee had a decision to make that ended up being different than what it might otherwise have been.

Had the brochure stated that eligibility was only for those who had never won an open event, I would have ruled that Lucky was not eligible and told NW that he should change his eligibility rules for next year. As far as I know, had eligibility been "never won an open main", at least one Giant would have been eligible to play in the limited. I believe that would be the most absurd thing ever at any tournament.
