A significant minority of tournament players I find, do not want to use a clock but are nonetheless very amenable to sharing one pair of dice.

The signal I suggest to them, and that is usually agreed, is that we do two rapid taps anywhere on the board, the chequers, the bar, side rail or even the table top. I feel that just one tap/touch could possibly cause ambiguity, but some find they only want to do one. One player likes a single tap/touch of the bar.

Using two cups at the side sounds like a good alternative set up.
