The world championship takes place in MC

No it doesn't. Just because the tournament calls itself "world championship" does not make it one. No disrespect to all the good players who were fortunate enough to win the tournament, but they are not world champions.

There is no world championship system in place in the realm of backgammon. Any serious world championship competition needs to be a culmination of a series of zonal qualifying tournaments. But certainly not a week long luckfest for all those who are willing to cough up the dough.
