When I give an explanation of something, I try to be as concise and simple as possible. Players, including myself, will be more likely to remember the critical item from a short list than a long one. The downside of this approach is that the explanation is incomplete. So you are right, 53P isn't a strong prime making threat. And please notice that I ignored the 64P example which falls in the same category.

While I haven't looked at these as closely as I have reviewed the 65R example, I believe there are two key factors which lead us to play 33B. Advancing one (or two) back checkers after a point is made on the opening roll reduces the value of the stripped eight point in making more inner board points. And the sevens which hit a blot on the eight point are poorly duplicated after a point is made on the opening roll. When you have made a point on the opening roll, you don't many strong rolls the next turn. So, responder will be reluctant to leave blots unnecessarily.
