As an aid to understanding how 33 should be played as a reply, I found it useful to consider how it would be played as an opening roll.
The result goes against one of David’s rules of thumb. Making the 5pt, and leaving an unduplicated 7 with which the opponent can hit, is to be avoided on the 2nd roll. On the 1st, however, evidently it is perfectly fine.
David, have you given any thought to why A (Attack) = 8/5(2) 6/3(2) is so strong in the reference position below?
