it fundamentally changes the game of bg. suddenly, it's clock management. and OBTW don't play any backgames. I'd not play in any event under this rule change. Coming up with an idea that constructively occupies the waiters is a more realistic goal. cube handling seems to be the biggest cause of matches dragging on - every game is played with cube centered and played until conclusion. certainly doesn't happen in higher divisions, but lower division play sees a lot of missed cubes. randomly cutting off the games @ 40 min. just won't fly.

off the cuff - how about running a side Swiss movement with short (1-3-5 point matches) where player's are matched primarily based on availability and secondly record.
