That rule is ambiguous. Corrected how? There may have been moves made that don't make sense if position is unaltered. As an example suppose Ben somehow had played a double 55 by making the ace and three point. And then Gary rolls and then the mistake is noticed.

Agreed. In fact, that idea occurred to me as I wrote. A better wording would include the admittedly subjective phrase, "If doing so would not impact the game in progress in a material way."
