wow, it's incredible that the match and position stayed in your head after all these years. But it certainly is understandable...i'm sure i'll be waiting for quite some time before i actually encounter a last roll situation such as the ones being discussed here. When i do, and if i am able to make the right play, AND win...i'll remember it for a lifetime also.
It's fascinating that you created your own match equity table. I would love to know the history behind these things. I can guess that there were several very theoretical people who understood the value of an accurate MET 35 years ago. I"m sure there weren't many others who were even able to grasp the idea of the need for such things. The first MET that i learned about was the Woolsey/Heinrich table. I have often wondered why he released the table to the public. Knowledge is power, and it would seem to me such information would give him a big advantage over his opponents. I'm not sure when it was released, but it seems you might have had your own MET before Woolsey released his. Interesting times, eh!
I was playing on a very casual level 35 years ago, also. Against my brothers. Sometimes we would play for 10 or 12 hours straight. We played for bragging rights, which lasted from the end of the previous game and about 6 rolls into the new game. LOL. Great memories.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! :)
