4/off creates no vulnerability on your next roll.

Doesn't 4/off also leave a shot with a subsequent 6-4 or 5-4?

3/off, 5/4 is perhaps the safest immediate play, leaving a shot with only 6-5. If we roll doubles next time, then this play would be safer. But if we don't roll doubles next time, we are still faced with having to clear the 5-point. And that means first coming down to two on that point, then getting a roll to clear it. It seems to me the immediate safety of 3/off, 5/4 isn't worth the extra long-term risk compared with 5/4, 5/2, which comes down to two on the 5-point right away.
