Clear from the rear. It helps avoid ditches. Get a spare on your bad number don't be slavish re keeping the rear even.Home a piece if you can observe these features. Using these principles even should you leave a blot that gets hit this is only a 3% actuality. Of course there will be threats to the end. This is basic stuff. Different board positions will demand tinkering with the basics. What about “this position”, shove it into XG, give the top four plays the XG++ treatment. They all obey this basic rule.

Where did the mob go wrong? Scrambling for the gammon which looks pretty safe to me,they forgot the priority in this position is to clear the rear. Their play left no blots on the next roll. The subsequent threats have not been decreased by the benefits accrued by removing from the rear.

Why does XG produce gammon % at DMP on match games. Because it can I guess.
