Rolling Rules

A legal roll consists of a vigorous shake followed by a toss of the dice out of the cup from a discernible height above the board such that the dice bounce and roll freely.
To toss: throw (something) lightly, easily, or casually
To throw: propel (something) with force through the air by a movement of the arm and hand.
To drop: let or make (something) fall vertically
It sure doesn't look to me like letting the dice drop vertically from the cup is same as tossing the dice from the cup. Letting something drop is not throwing it. Dice that are dropped may bounce, but won't roll across the board as they do after being propelled from the cup with a more or less horizontal force. Instead of entertaining himself with unusual rolling habits, your opponent should roll properly, as most, I imagine, most of his opponents manage to do.
