I was pointing out, esp. for those players who may be worried about cheating or may not be ... the most observant players, that keeping dice cups in the game should keep them more calm than removing them.

This is a slightly different argument from what it seemed you were presenting. This argument, if I understand correctly, is that regardless of whether or not it's actually easier to swap loaded dice in and out with no cup, many worrywarts believe that it's easier, and so enforcing cup usage pacifies the worrywarts.

This is a plausible explanation for why worrywarts favor cups, but Art seemed not to be asking for an explanation for worrywart behavior; he seemed to be asking for a rational justification for using cups that might seem persuasive to a non-baffle-box-fan (who is presumably not a bigger worrywart than the baffle-box-fan). Pointing out that cups pacify worrywarts but may not offer any objective advantage doesn't strike me as being persuasive to non-worrywarts.

A skilled cheat doesn't need an extra piece of equipment for misdirection. He'd much prefer a free hand.

Agreed that he doesn't need it. Whether he prefers it I think will be...a matter of preference. Some may prefer the extra flexibility of an extra piece of equipment while others may not.
