If 16/13 8/6 and 16/14 10/7 are candidates why not 8/6 10/7?

Nice catch. It must be close in equity to the others I listed, so lets add it to the mix.

My guess, however, is that 16/14 10/7 is a better version of that play. As long as you are putting a checker on the 7pt, I like 16/14 because it creates a two-way plan. We could cover or not on the 7pt or 8pt according the upcoming plays. If we moved 8/6 instead, we would not end up with direct covers for the 7pt and 8pt. Therefore, 8/6 is not as much of a two-way play as 16/14. It commits to simply racing home to beat gammon.

On the other hand, if racing home to beat the gammon is the best tactic, then our play should be 16/14 8/6.
