Cube on 64/1

Certainly, the cube should be placed in the centre at the start of the game (or somewhere near, where it is not ambiguous) but why must it be on 64 or 1? Everyone knows we don't play Autos in tournaments.
I actually feel that, in a clocked match, a player should have the right to insist that the 2 is uppermost or, at the very least, visible to both players. Matches can occasionally be won or lost by not having that extra second or two. Alternatively, not having a few extra seconds on the clock can contribute to a mistake that massively reduces equity.
It may seem trivial, but personally I wouldn't like to feel that my opponents fumbling to find the 2 on the cube had contributed to my victory.
