Winning PR vs Losing PR

Bob -- your suggestions make a certain sense . . . except that in employing them as you suggest , in preference to plays that would confer greater match-winning chances, you would be paying 'up front' with substantial errors in the hope of recouping that error-dump through more correct play (because simpler) play later on.
But in practice, those later benefits may or may not arise. Maybe you actually get vexed with tough decisions anyway -- or maybe, had you played 'properly' your future plays might have been just as 'easy.'
This reminds me of my (lamentable) tendency to sometimes take a marginal pass against a weaker player in the expectation that I will get the sacrificed equity back in subsequent play due to their ineptitude. But opportunities for ineptitude do not always arise -- and even by chance, sometimes a 'weaker' player gets things right after all. One thing's for sure: by taking a pass, you are not playing like a 'superior' player, and you are paying something real for the chance of (maybe) getting something back.
I'm not saying that this sort of strategy may not pan out in your favor if properly applied . . . but I can say that the strongest players in my chouette don't indulge in these "I'll pay now for a chance of your paying later" fantasies.
