Questions on Box cubes

In Response To: Questions on Box cubes (TarHeelFan)

I have an extensive, written set of chouette rules for the Chicago chou that I originally wrote with help from Jake, and we made a few changes over the years. I will be happy to send them to anyone who wants them....just email me.

I am telling you that these are our rules, but they are NOT what rules I would prefer. I will also tell you that our rules work pretty well given the mix of players we have, but a big factor as to what the best rules are depends greatly on the personality and abilities of the players. If you have players of greatly different skill levels, there is a huge difference whether you play consulting or non-consulting, equal action on cubes or pick and choose, extras or not, etc. etc. Also applies to beavers and raccoons etc.

Also, if you have people in the game that constantly argue and insist on their plays, non-consulting is highly preferred.

Lastly, a lot depends on whether you are playing a chouette for fun and social reasons or for big money. (Or sometimes both.)

I have completely different preferences and suggestions depending on all of the above. And of course, it all depends on whether you want rules that "protect" the fish or take advantage of them. My experience is that if you have rules that really screw the fish, it is not only unfair and unpleasant, but you will soon lose the fish and find your chouettes become head-up or very small games. Long term, it's not a good investment.

I have sent Jeb our rules.
