A while ago I noted somewhere (probably rec.games.backgammon) that there have been several who became chess grandmasters in their teens and asked why we don't see that level of prodigy in backgammon. A couple answers were that because of gambling association it is not played much by kids, and that chess depends more on logic whereas backgammon depends more on judgement.
