Definition of 'Gammonish'?

That's great Phil - thanks for your clear explanation.
As per usual, it's what I was fearing.. (the definition/percentage is dependent upon the match score, match length and current cube value). Why is nothing straightforward in backgammon!? :)
What sparked this off was, in a recent match I was leading 1away - 3away to 5, post-Crawford.
After a few moves, with a direct 6-shot and indirect 9 being aimed at me, my trailing opponent offered me the cube. Post-analysis shows he had just over 18% gammon winning chances at that point.
OTB, I looked at the position and felt that he had decent gammon threat if he got that hit and sent a third chequer back :( A horrible vision of me crashing out, the final scoreboard reading 4-6, flashed up in front of my eyes. I dropped for the single point.
According to Woolsey's article I was 'tricked': unless the position was "gammonish". That's why I wanted to find out if there was an agreed percentage range. 18% does not sound that high but it looked scary :)
