In the third position, Blue already has 8 checkers in the home board. Maybe Blue rolled a lot of big numbers. But it's possible that from the second position Blue should have concentrated more on making his backmost 10 checkers work together on White's side of the board instead of rushing around to fill in the 6 and 5 points.

I did roll more than my fair share of 6's, but no big doubles. Looking over the game now, I believe you are right that I misplayed it in the way you suspected. Thanks...this was helpful.
