Isn't there a 'standard' bg board shape?!

We've found that most users want the board to fill their screen, no matter what the aspect ratio. Whenever there's a new device released that's somewhat popular, the first thing that happens is we get a lot of emails asking for fullscreen support.

As Tom noted, it's already difficult to tap on checkers and points on smaller devices, so making the board even smaller to maintain a particular aspect ratio doesn't work well.

Also, some tablets (such as the Nook) require apps to fill the screen in order to be approved for sale on their app store.

If you prefer a more square board, your best bet would be to find a device with an aspect ratio closer to 1:1. Then you would be more likely to find apps that fit your screen with a more square board.
