Jacoby Rule for Match Play?

Is [the Jacoby rule] even a better rule for money play where it is common?
I think some people enjoy the gambling aspect of backgammon. By "gambling aspect," I mean the combination of (1) being unsure of the result and (2) having more on the line.
If increasing the gambling aspect makes for a better game, then the Jacoby rule seems to do its job. A large percent of the time when a player plays on for a gammon he ends up cashing anyway so you have a good idea what the result will be. Forcing a player to cube before playing on cuts short games with low #1, or at least improves #2.
(Personally, I prefer match play because it doesn't have a "gambling aspect.")
A different rule change that might make backgammon more interesting is this:
If you close out your opponent, the game is over and you win the current value of the cube.
So if you want to play on for a gammon, you have to keep one point open in your board if your opponent has a checker on the bar.
(I came up with this during all the spare time I seem to have sitting on the bar.)
