But unlike the movies, we have many losing sessions. Playing blackjack for a living is a grind.

Giving it a sense of perspective, I read once that pass line bettors stood a 19% chance of being plus after 1000 hours of play! Without the author's assumptions it can't be verified, but doing my own back of the envelope calculations, it seems possible. Blackjack players (should) play more hands per hour than craps players bet dice rolls, and the average edge for a blackjack player is less than the 1.4% the house has on the pass line. But I know of losing streaks that have run into hundreds of hours, said streaks undergone by professionals with years of overall wins.
