Agreed. However my way of tackling the problem is different. Study at home and you won't waste the time OtB.

When faced with a choice of a defensive play or an offensive one, then make a DEFENSE first

An okay overall rule but you had better be awake. There will many situations where it's plain wrong. It also depends how far you extend your 'defense first'. Are you speaking strictly of plays where you can anchor up or make an offensive point or are you also talking about plays where you can run from the 18pt instead of make a point for eg? The deeper the opponent's inner board point, the more likely one should be to make a (good) offensive point. Also, if the opponent's back men are already split then your outfield builders have more of a need to be buttoned up.
