If I am going to go across the country to play Backgammon I will want to play it on a real board. If I wanted to play on a tablet then I could do it from the comfort of my own home. If someone had a tablet mandatory event (hypothetically speaking) I wouldn't even consider it an event I'd go to. If it were tablet optional and an opponent asked me to play on it, I'd politely decline. I would not have any problem with them video recording the match if they wanted to transcribe it. My issue isn't with having an automated record.
