While I don't complete agree with the conclusions you drew from the evidence,cone thing I think we can all agree on--nobody here is saying (I don't believe) that there should be a firm rule that applies to all tournaments. Those of us who advocate for more payouts would like to see that more often. I love the fact that we have different formats and different payouts etc. the only thing that matters is s level playing field and fair distribution of ABT points based on the number of entrants.

I also believe that the payouts and entry fees for intermediate and novice need to make it less about the money and more about the fun. I believe many more open players would bring children (and grandchildren) if they could play very in expensively and get some free coaching and some fun side events for them (like hyper gammon and skunk dice etc).
