shouuld there be more payouts in the ABT

Could there be a large backgammon tournament with no money prizes where the prestige of winning was enough to draw many top players? My guess is no. Why does that work for bridge though? Is it because the prestige brings with it opportunities to earn money from teaching or being paid to be a partner? Something else?
