I think active should mean at least 6 major tournaments a year, but I know we will never have complete agreement on this.

That is an insanely high number. There are 18 ABT events this year that one could reasonably attend. (You counted 19, I know) This means to be active a player would have to attend 1/3rd of the big tournaments in the US. Few US players travel to play in other countries. I don't know the number of 'major' European tournaments per year but it can't be that high either. With backgammon being such a negative money suckhole even for the best players it's a bit unfair to expect anyone to show up to that many tournaments every year.
