"I agree it should be moved. I agree that sponsorship is also a very important factor as to where it should be moved. But unless it involves enough money to attract ALL the worlds best players the sponsorship should not be the deciding factor. I think it should move around, Asia, Europe, Eastern Europe, The Americas. There are a lot of very strong players from each of these regions who do not attend because of the costs.
I know it's been held there for decades but there comes a time where changes must be made. For the entire BG community, now is the time. If you truly want to have a "world" championship that brings ALL the greatest backgammon players into a tournament that truly represents who is the worlds greatest then allow the world to attend, not just those who can afford it.
You will never find a place which satisfies all nations.Those very strong players you are talking about should move once a year if they want to become world champion. In Europe we voted in the EUBGF's assembly and Denmark, with higher living cost, won against Greece. It doesn't exist yet a world federation so I think is not yet a time for a change but maybe we can start discussing about how and where a World Championship should be.
