Tournament Scheduling Controls

You'd like earlier start times, but others might like later ones. Tournament organisers can advertise start times for their events for whatever they like, and players will take them or leave them of course. But, in general, it's probably best that a happy medium is achieved. I'm surprised I've never seen a poll on this subject, along with projected finish times.

I know a player who's been playing for a few years now. In truth, he's probably a lower intermediate still, and didn't play very regularly, but clearly gained renewed enthusiasm in the last year or two, after winning a few events at various clubs. I asked him last year if he'd played in the London Open. He said he was put off by the early start time on the Sunday: report at 0900 for a 1000 start. He's not one of the great unwashed, but works hard, full time, as a salesman. It just didn't appeal to him having to be there at that time on a Sunday morning.
