Tournament Scheduling Controls

My position has more to do with ABT tournaments in the USA. I can't think of a single tournament on the ABT schedule that doesn't take place at a hotel with accommodations. That usually means arriving Thursday or Friday night and leaving on Sunday. For tournaments to attract more than 20/25 players in a given Division, the tournament needs "out of town" players. Those players need to commute home on Sunday. It's a lot easier to make a flight or drive several hours when there is a reasonable expectation that the event concludes pretty close to what the brochure states.
Most ABT events don't start on Sunday before 11:00 which is reasonable given that players need to eat breakfast, check out, etc. My main preference is that tournaments start a little earlier on Saturdays. Trying to squeeze in lectures, announcements, calcuttas, and bracket postings can push starting times beyond 12:30. I would just prefer things be arranged so that tournaments might start around 11:00 on Saturday. I would love to see a poll on this topic.
