DEAD CUBE RULE

Clearly you and I have a different definition of good sportsmanship and different values about the importance of playing by the rules.
Bottom line is we can only use our own best judgement, and I use "the golden rule" as a part of my judgment. I wouldn't hold anyone to a standard I wouldn't hold myself to.
I have lectured on the subject of ethics for many years around the world, and the no. 1 point I make at the beginning of every lecture is: ethics are subjective. It is black and white that we should not kill people, but I can certainly give you examples where it is justified.
It is wrong to lie. But I can certainly give you examples where it is justified.
So I am not about to tell you, or anyone, how you should live. But I will tell you how I live, and what rules I will live by in my chouette, and I will show you the written rules. And if you choose to bend rules or not play by them, and you choose not to hold others to the rules, that's your problem.
You mentioned other things like fast rolling, which is often done. Not against me it's not. I know that can cause confusion and problems and I know if I don't call it immediately the first time I lose my "ethical" stance to call it later. So it doesn't happen.
You mention that if you say you will double you must. In our chouette, you must, and we do hold people to that. Ask anyone who plays in the chouette. Yes, a new player or someone who joins us from out of town might say it as a joke, because lots of places allow that, and we give them a warning the first time...that's good sportsmanship and reasonable. After that, if they say the word double, or they say they would beaver, or they say they would pass, they must do it.
And if you think that we don't have plenty of humor and joking around in our chouette, you are very wrong. We have a lot of fun, and one reason it is fun is that everyone knows the rules and we don't have fights all the time about what is allowed and what is not.
Am I a bad sport for respecting the rules and living by them strictly and expecting others too? That's your opinion, I guess. I disagree.
