USA vs. Japan Tournament Format
Streaming will begin at 12:00 PM CST. There will be three streams going at all times for this event.
The format is listed in order as the matches will be played...
Thursday, May 24, 2018 — USA vs. Japan Stage 1
7-Point MatchTeam members play the first 7-point match
DMP MatchesTeam members play 4 DMP matches (2 opponents, 2 matches vs. each opponent)
SpeedgammonTeam members play 2 Speedgammon matches (2 minutes total reserve time, 10 second delay) (2 opponents, 1 match vs. each opponent)
2-Away, 4-AwayAgainst 1st opponent, team members will play 2 matches. Each match will start a score of 2-away, 4-away. Each player will start once at each score.
3-Away, 6-AwayAgainst 2nd opponent, team members will play 2 matches. Each match will start a score of 3-away, 6-away. Each player will start once at each score.
Backgammon QuizTeam members will take a 24-question backgammon quiz.
7-Point MatchTeam members play the second 7-point match
Friday, May 25, 2018 — USA vs. Japan Championship Stage
The Nation with the advantage gained during the Preliminary Stage will have the bonus of deciding the team pairings for the Championship Stage.
15-Point MatchUSA and Japan will both split into three teams with one Captain on each team. The teams will be paired up against each other creating three USA vs. Japan team matches. Each pairing will play a single, full-consulting 15-point match.
WinnerThe Nation that wins two out of the three 15-point matches will be crowned the winner of USA vs Japan.

T-Shirts have arrived for all players taking part in the USA vs Japan Team Competition. Team USA will have blue shirts and Team Japan will have red shirts.

Separately, Chicago Open logoed t-shirts will be available in red or blue for purchase of $10 each while supplies last.

Optional Activities, please RSVP ASAP if you would like to secure tickets for Tuesday or Wednesday:

***Tuesday Tour of Chicago***

Depart from Tournament Hotel between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM. Approximate travel time is 45 minutes depending on traffic.

  1. Go to the top of the Willis Tower and see beautiful views of the City of Chicago (tallest building in USA, formerly known as the Sears Tower).
  2. Visit Millennium Park to see the Cloud Gate (aka the BEAN) and Crown Fountain.
  3. Take a 90-minute boat tour along the Chicago river where we will learn about the history of the city especially the architecture.
  4. Eat Chicago's famous Deep-Dish Pizza!
  5. Total Cost for the day will be about $100 per person.
***Wednesday Night King SPA Social Activity***
  1. King Spa is a Korean Salt Spa.
  2. It is a 20-minute drive from the Tournament Hotel.
  3. The group rate is $20 per person.
  4. The plan is to leave the hotel at 6:00 PM and return about 10:00 PM.
