Legal Moves or Not

In Response To: Legal Moves or Not (Phil Simborg)

I've changed my stance on this in recent months... I prefer to play legal moves, but only want to do it if I'm playing somebody I know and trust. This threshold is pretty low, so just about anybody can get me to play legal moves.

Besides questions of legal moves, I think there are other problems in backgammon that should be addressed, namely that of improper procedure. Examples include moving checkers with two hands, premature dice pickup (when playing with clocks), premature rolling (when playing without clocks), touching/handling checkers or dice when not your turn. I just transcribed a match off of video where my opponent constantly did all of these. It was annoying at the time, and then it was annoying to see on the video.

There's so much talk of legal/illegal moves, but not nearly enough about procedure.
